Board of Governors

Cobham Hall’s Board of Governors is drawn from a variety of professional fields, united in the common goal of overseeing and safeguarding the continual growth and development of the School.


Mr M Pennell

Chairman of Governors

Mr Pennell worked in the City as a solicitor for 30 years, specialising in the commercial real estate sector.  For nearly 20 years he was a partner and then a consultant with a leading international firm.  He has been the Chair of Governors since December 2014 and is also a Trustee of the Cobham Hall Heritage Trust.


Mr C Sykes

Mr Sykes is the parent of a former Cobham Hall girl and the former Chairman of Governors.  He is a former Regional Director of the National Care Standards Commission in Sussex.


Mr J Dick

Chairman of Finance and General Purposes Committee

With 30 years of financial experience, Mr Dick is a Director of Capital Blue.  He is a former Senior Executive of both Barclays Bank and Woolwich plc and a past Managing Director of Sedgwick Financial Consultants.  Mr Dick’s daughter attended Cobham Hall.


Mr C Balch

Member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee

Mr Balch is a Managing Director (Europe) in structured finance and investment banking for a German real estate bank in London.  Currently working throughout Europe, Mr Balch also has extensive business experience in London.  Mr Balch’s wife and daughter both attended Cobham Hall.


Mrs L Ellis

Member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee

Mrs Ellis is the former Chairman of Cobham Parish Council.  She is a Trustee of the Cobham Hall Heritage Trust and a member of the Committee of The Friends of Cobham Hall Heritage Trust.  Her daughter attended Cobham Hall.


Mr M Frost

Member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee

Mr Frost is a Lloyd’s Underwriter at Beazley Group.  He has worked in the London insurance market for over 30 years.  Mr Frost has one daughter currently at the School and one who is an Elder of the School.


Mrs S McRitchie

Member of the Education, Staff and Welfare Committee

Mrs McRitchie is an Editorial Director of a business-to-business publishing company, with extensive journalistic experience.  She is an Elder of the School and a member of the Unicorn Association.  Her daughers are both Cobham Hall Elders.


Dr K O’Neill-Byrne

Member of the Education, Staff and Welfare Committee and Child Protection Governor

Dr O’Neill-Byrne is an NHS doctor, appointed to a consultancy post in 1994.  She was a VSO volunteer (Belize 1990-1992) and has experience in developing mental health services for a whole country.  She is a serving governor of a Kent primary school and a retired trustee of the Good Rock Foundation, a charity working in North-West China.  She has a special interest in languages and international development.  She has one daughter currently at the School, and two are now Elders.  Her eldest daughter is a former Guardian.


Mrs P Tebbit

Chairwoman of the Education, Staff and Welfare Committee

Now retired, Mrs Tebbit is a former Headmistress of Lorenden Preparatory School in Faversham with over 30 years’ teaching experience.  She is a member of the Independent Association of Prep Schools, a curriculum advisor and mentor for Early Years and Pre Prep Departments and, in her free time, a master cake designer and decorator.


Mrs S Webb

Mrs Webb has worked in both secondary and primary schools and in the state and independent sectors.  Starting as a teacher, Mrs Webb became Deputy Head at King’s Rochester, and after achieving her MA and NPQH took on the Headship at Hilden Oaks in Tonbridge, where she worked for ten years.  A member of the IAPS and an ISI Inspector, Mrs Webb currently mentors new Heads and is used in an advisory capacity for schools.  A mother of two, Mrs Webb is a keen equestrian.  She is wholly committed to Cobham Hall’s inclusive holistic philosophy.
