At Cobham Hall we offer an excellent programme of support to assist students through the sometimes daunting process of applying to university.
Alongside our extensive careers programme, designed to enable students to make informed, confident choices about their future, we also organise a variety of sessions which will encourage our girls to appreciate all of their achievements and utilise these and their academic experiences to write an outstanding personal statement. The whole Sixth Form team is heavily involved in this process and our small class sizes ensure that students have one-to-one support.
All Year 12 students will attend a UCAS exhibition which provides the perfect opportunity for students to speak directly to the universities they are considering attending. Every year, we invite a university admissions team in to talk to the girls to highlight what universities are looking for in an application.
As we are a small school, tutors, academic staff and the Head of Sixth Form will all contribute to the reference-writing process ensuring that all references are highly personalised and individual. We also support students who are considering applying abroad and our University Challenge Programme is designed to assist those applying for the elite universities and courses.
Applying to university in the UK via UCAS
UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) is responsible for accepting and managing applications to Higher Education courses within the UK.
With its acronyms, dates, deadlines and requirements, university application can seem like a daunting task. Our Head of Sixth Form, along with form tutors and subject teachers mentor our girls from the beginning to the end of the application process, right up until they have secured their university place, and sometimes beyond. Cobham Hall girls are regularly offered a place at their first choice of university, many with unconditional offers.
Girls are guided through the online system and get advice and feedback on personal statements and choosing the right course and university. Careers advice is provided throughout the School via various events, discussions and lessons, and girls are encouraged to explore a variety of career options.
Applying to universities overseas
For some students, studying overseas is their dream, and we have the experience needed to help students complete a successful university application. Whether it’s applying directly for universities and colleges in Asia and Europe, or via the Common Application process for American institutions, support is provided for all options.
As many European universities require applications only once IB results have been announced, our support continues after students have left the School, and in some cases will carry on until they have settled into their new lives beyond Cobham Hall.
