First Place Wins for Lilly
For many, the Easter break provided time to unwind and relax after a busy Spring Term. For others, a chance to knuckle down with revision ready for the Summer Term’s examinations. For one student, however, it was a chance to bag a first place trophy!
Before the Easter holidays, Year 10 triathlete Lilly took part in the British Schools’ Biathlon Championships, and received a 15th place finish. That was just the start of a fantastic few weeks of competing, which ended with a first place finish at the London and South England Aquathon!
Between those two competitions, Lilly also competed at the British Elite Triathlon: two days of seminars and action in Loughborough. In the performance assessment, Lilly came out of the swim in 41st position, despite a personal best swim, and so was quite far down the ranking. However, her cycling saw her shoot up to 5th place, but a setback on the run resulted in her being ranked 14th nationally – still an incredible achievement out of 63 athletes.
After receiving her national ranking, Lilly was invited to take part in Elite races, one being for the following weekend at the British Duathlon Championships. With a strong wind and hot weather, Lilly’s cycle carried her through and earned recognition from the top coaches of Great Britain, with one saying, ‘that’s true grit, she is what we want’.
Lilly further built on her win at the London and South England Aquathon by coming first at the MedwayTri Duathlon last weekend. Well done, Lilly!
