An Adventurous Weekend

Over the weekend, Lower School pupils Arwen, Francesca, Harmony and Poppy, accompanied by Miss Boyle, went ‘Beyond their Limits’ at a Round Square Conference in Nottinghamshire.  Based around the pillar of ‘Adventure’ the aim of the long weekend wonderfully complimented our own school motto of 'There is more in you than you think!'

The Conference was entitled ‘Beyond your Limits’, and over the five days the delegates were involved in many collaborative activities which encouraged team-work and effective communication. Days 2-4 were particularly challenging and adventurous as we travelled to Cholmondeley Castle for a Bush Craft Camp. Here pupils from across Europe worked together to create shelters, make fires safely within their 'tribes'; learn how to cope with medical emergencies in the wild and, amongst an array of other fabulous tasks and activities, learn about cutting tools and safe handling techniques. The delegates were given the opportunity to cook their own food and ultimately have fun! When not involved in workshops and skills exercises, they were singing, laughing and playing games!  We were particularly thrilled that Arwen was named ‘Tribeswoman of Tribe Two’ for her dedication and enthusiasm.

The final night and day were spent back at fellow Round Square school, and host for the weekend, The Samworth Church Academy. Here the pupils enjoyed a disco and experienced climbing, archery and laser clay pigeon shooting.  The weekend also included a tour of Chatsworth House.

Round Square scholar, Francesca said she had a really enjoyable experience, "I made lots of friends from other schools and countries. I learnt new skills such as knifework, bushcraft and laser clay pigeon shooting.”

Miss Boyle also enjoyed the weekend, “I want to thank Arwen, Francesca, Harmony and Poppy for embracing the experience. They had an excellent attitude and commitment to the conference.”
