Several girls had a busy Saturday this weekend, competing at the British Schools’ Regional Biathlon event at nearby Medway Park. The Biathlon event comprises of a swim and a run, and students have the chance to qualify for the British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships, which take place in March.
We were thrilled to learn that Year 11 pupil, Lilly, followed a good swim by winning her run, and going on to win the U17 category.
When cross-country runner Maisy, now Year 10, joined Cobham Hall in Year 7, she was not a very strong swimmer. Yet she dug deep and knocked an astonishing 20 seconds off her 200m swim. She went on to achieve an outstanding time of 5 minutes 21 seconds in the 1600m race, seeing her win the run for her age category.
Maisy joined Holly, also Year 10, and Alice, Year 9, to form our U15 team, who achieved a second place finish. Meanwhile, Natasha, Year 7, achieved a 6th place finish in the U13 category, in her first Biathlon representing Cobham Hall.
Head of PE Mrs Hooper said afterwards, “All of the girls, Natasha and Olivia from Year 7, Alice and Enya from Year 8, Year 9s Alice and Trinity, Year 10s Holly and Maisy, and Lilly from Year 11, performed with confidence and determination. They truly were a credit to the School and themselves. As well as the win and a second place, many of the girls managed to achieve personal best times in their runs and swims - or both! - and I’m so proud of all of them.”
To top the day off, Cobham Hall Elder and Modern Pentathlete Kate French presented medals to the girls.
