Drinks Party - Wednesday 11th November 2009
The Commonwealth Club in London was the venue for a highly successful drinks party organised by the Elders Association. Everyone enjoyed the evening, catching up on all the news while waiters circulated with plenty of delicious canapés and kept everyone's glasses topped up.
Former and current staff met up with many of the girls they had taught over the years, and elegant ladies who had joined the school in 1963 (you know who you are) enjoyed chatting to girls who only left last year. Girls from the current Sixth Form - the next generation of Elders - also attended and were fascinated to see video clips of early school events - transferred from cine film by former Head of Sport, Sheila Buchanan. These included the opening of Brooke House by the then Minister for Education, Margaret Thatcher.
Cobham Hall's Elders can be found in all walks of life, from the corridors of Westminster to the Antarctic Survey; from journalism and broadcasting to the 2012 Olympic team. If you would like to offer your experience and expertise to the school, through talks, workshops and work experience opportunities, please get in touch.
Elders were also quick to support the school on the night. An initiative to set up a bursary to fund essential extras for Cobham Hall Scholars was immediately taken up and donations flowed. One anonymous Elder had generously offered to match whatever was raised on the night.
Thank you so much to all those who came along on the night. We know you enjoyed it and we hope you will spread the word to ensure that more Elders come along to our next events.
