2006 Trip to Botswana

On 8th July, a group of 6 students travelled to Botswana with Head of English, Mrs Stevens, to participate in Cobham Hall's seventh annual environmental and service trip to Botswana, where they put into practice the aims and ideals of Round Square.

The Intrepid Travellers

The trip is organised through links with Maru a Pula - a fellow Round Square school in Botswana.  The emphasis is on adventure, community service, cultural awareness and conservation and gives the girls a once in a lifetime insight into African life.

They spent 5 days at the Dula Sentle day care centre, which is about 50K from Gaborone.  Here the girls helped with the activities organised for the children.  The centre provides a stimulating environment for study and learning, as well as opportunities for music and sport.  Find about more on the Dula Sentle website.  www.dulasentle.org.bw

Helping in the Classroom

During a 5 day stay at the Mawana Nature Reserve, the girls took part in a range of environmental and conservation projects, including bush walks, craft activities and learning about the local habitat – snakes, elephants and hippos.  They enjoyed a memorable night under the stars on the banks of the Limpopo river, and safari drives both during the day and at night.  The camp has no electricity and all waste is recycled.

The girls paid the expenses for the trip themselves, and fundraising events were organised throughout the Spring and Summer terms.
