House Drama Festival

This year's House Drama Festival 2007 was held on Friday 16 November.

The plays selected were as follows:

Clifton House

Walking with Shadows by Ben Myers

Darnley House You Made Me by Kelvin Reynolds & Adrian Lockwood
Lenox House Sparkleshark by Philip Ridley
Richmond House Living with Lady Macbeth by Rob John

The school was delighted to welcome back Alan Goodwin as the adjudicator for the Festival.  Alan has 40 years experience in the business, as a Drama teacher, assistant Headteacher and amateur and professional actor, appearing in plays such as The Taming of the Shrew at the National Theatre.  He works extensively at the Geoffrey Whitworth Theatre in Kent as an actor and director, is an Ofsted inspector, a professional adjudicator and runs the Spotlights Youth Theatre Company in 3 different locations in Kent.

In his summing up to the assembled school, Alan commended all the House Captains on an excellent Festival, and praised the very high quality of all the performances.  He stressed that the four pieces had been very different, albeit on a similar theme, and had required a wide range of techniques in staging, lighting and directing as well as performance.  He particularly commended Clifton's use of music, the excellent group scenes in Lenox's production, and the comic timing of the performances of Darnley's Rachel Morfett and Gemma Carter.
