The sun shines for Festival Day 2007

The weather leading up to Festival Day 2007 gave great cause for concern, but on the day the sun shone and conditions could not have been better for the many parents, guardians and guests who attended the annual Festival Day at Cobham Hall.

Festival Day is the most important day in the school year at Cobham Hall, marking as it does the end of the academic year.  Parents and guardians, Governors and guests join staff and students in celebrating the achievements of the year - academic, sporting and artistic, and areas which relate to the Round Square ideals - social service, citizenship and environmental awareness.

This year's guest on honour was Miss Caroline Cawston, known to all at Cobham Hall - staff and students alike - as Corky.  Corky is an Elder of the school and former Chairman of Governors.   Following an early career in the House of Commons, she has successfully owned and run a political consultancy since the early 80s.

She was a member of Richmond House, and an enthusiastic House Swimming Captain.  On her retirement as Chairman of Governors, she presented the school with the trophy for 'Excellence in Swimming' which bears her name.

As Chairman of Governors, Corky was closely involved with the lengthy discussions between the school and the other parties involved in the Cobham Ashenbank Management Scheme.  The benefits of the time and effort spent in finalising this important project can now be seen, both in the immediate surroundings of Cobham Hall and in the wider Cobham Park.

The prizegiving is held in the Activities Centre, and parents and staff enjoyed presentations by staff and students on the year's events, and a delightful interlude of Music & Drama performed by students.

Following the prizegiving, an opening ceremony was held at The Aviary in Lady Darnley's Garden - which is of special personal significance to the Darnley family.  Corky and Lord Darnley were both delighted to see the wonderful work achieved as part of the CAMS project in this part of the historic grounds -
