Cobham Hall's Environmental Committee
2010 is the year of biodiversity, and Cobham Hall has recently formed the new Environmental Committee.
The student leader members of the Committee are: Sophia Kosti (RS Representative and Environmental Committee Student President), Anastasia Voznesenskaya, Chantelle Roles, Elitsa Zhugleva, Gemma Carter, Ishita Jalan, Laura Tamm and Lauren Fox.
Our supervisor is Miss Caro Quintana and we are still accepting new people!
Cobham Hall has been registered as one of the UK eco-schools, and we have recently won the bronze award. The main 9 topics which we are looking at are: water, biodiversity, energy, global perspective, healthy living, litter, school grounds, transport and waste. You can find more details on our board in the Stone Corridor or in the eco-awards website www.eco-schools.co.uk .
Our school has already a recycling program running and as a starting point this year we have placed notices about saving water and electricity around the school. Some of our members also participated on an assembly in order to help students be conscious about the importance of being as environmentally friendly as possible.
We are very lucky of having our school’s beautiful and huge grounds and a programme of preserving biodiversity and landscaping is already being carried out by school’s fantastic Maintenance and Gardening team.
However, the probably biggest improvement of all is that the school is contemplating how to make it possible to have the school minibus available for our boarding students to use at the weekend when they go visiting the cinema, the shopping mall, or just a night out!
On a recent meeting with the Bursar, the Environmental Committee discussed how the main 9 topics can be improved even more, and we are already thinking of getting the silver award!
