Fashion Show raises over £1000 for Thailand Project
Nearly 200 staff and students and their friends and families crowded into the Gilt Hall for a Fashion Show to raise money for the school's fund for the Round Square Thailand Project.
Three staff members and one former student braved the catwalk to model a range of clothes from well known high street and designer labels. All the clothes were available for sale after the show at much reduced prices.
The show raised over £1,000, thanks to everyone who supported this event.
Read about the Thailand Project:
In October, a part of students will be travelling to Ko Phi Phi Island in Thailand to work on an ongoing project to build a community resource centre for the people of Krabi village, whose homes and livelihoods were wiped out by the tsunami in December 2004.
We all remember the dreadful scenes of devastatiion following the tsunami, and Round Square was quick to see the need for projects to address the long-term problems which would arise. The Regent's School initiated the Ko Phi Phi project to provide a new beginning for the Krabi village community. Homes are gradually being rebuilt, but the community centre will provide the community with a meeting place as well as offering higher education classes and vocational training, taught by volunteer teachers. GPs will also be on hand to provide medical support and advice on a voluntary basis.
The party from Cobham Hall will participate in the project for one week, living and working with the villagers and other volunteers from Round Square schools. They will then take the opportunity to visit Bangkok for a few days, including a visit to Father Joseph's Mercy Centre for street children with AIDS.
