Festival Day
Festival Day is an important date in the Cobham Hall calendar, marking the end of the academic year.
Over 500 parents, guardians and guests joined staff and students this year to celebrate the achievements of the year. Cups and prizes were presented for academic success and for achievements in sport, art, drama and music together with awards reflecting students' contributions to the Round Square ethos of the school.
The guest of honour this year was Anna Hemmings MBE and everyone agreed that her presentation was inspiring. Anna has a total of eleven World and European Championship medals, confirming her status as Britain's most successful ever female canoist. She vividly descriped her particular event - the 18 mile marathon race - where competitors not only have to canoe long distances but also pick up their canoe and carry it to the next entry point. Video clips of Anna winning the 2007 World Championship of this strenuous event drew spontaneous applause from the audience!
Guests were then invited to refreshments in the Lady Darnley Garden, where many took the opportunity to talk to Anna about her achievements.
