Swallows & Amazons Forever!

Four lucky group 2 students have just returned from an amazing weekend of adventure at Windermere St Anne's school in the Lake District. The Year 8 conference had the theme ‘Finding the Spirit of Adventure'.
Hannah Cullen, Robyn Fuller, Isla Murphy and Charlotte Harris were selected to represent Cobham. We woke up at 5am to set off on the long drive to the Lake District. On arrival we had some ice-breaker games to get to know the other delegates. There were students from four German schools, L'Ermitage in Paris and Westfield and Abbotsholme in England. In the afternoon we were split into two groups. We had a treasure hunt on the side of a hill to search for scrabble letters to build a word. We also had a drama workshop. After more games in the evening, we flopped down to watch the film version of Swallows and Amazons.
The weather was kind to us on the Sunday. After a big brunch we were taken to Hodge Howe, Windermere's beautiful water sports centre right on the Lake front. The Swallows canoed and kayaked across the lake while the Amazons played team building games. In the afternoon, the activities were reversed. There was a strong headwind and paddling across the lake was very hard work but the Cobham and Westfield girls showed the boys how it was done- heads down and spirits high they paddled with all their might. Other groups were towed by a motorboat but the girls triumphed. On our return, we had a really wonderful time swimming in the lake in the evening light- it was magical.
In the evening we had a barbecue and concert. It was great fun. The whole weekend was full of fun and laughter and we made many new friends- we would encourage all Cobham girls to apply for next year's conferences.
