Cobham Hall raised £238.50 in just 20 minutes as part of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee morning last Friday.
The coffee morning, held during the morning break from lessons, offered coffee, tea and hot chocolate, along with plenty of cakes, cupcakes, cookies and scones. There were even gluten free, nut free and egg free choices available. The cakes were sold by the Student Leadership team, which is made up of the Guardian (head girl), her deputies and the four school house captains.
Miss Jessica Caro Quintana, the teacher in charge of organising the fundraiser was surprised by how much money the morning made.
“We only expected to raise about £100 and then more than doubled the money!” she said.
“People donated plenty of treats which was great.”
Students, staff and the school kitchen all made cakes for the morning, with Sixth Form boarders baking in their boarding houses while the Junior Cookery Club donated cakes made in the school’s newly refurbished cookery room.
This Friday, Cobham Hall staff and students have another fundraiser planned, selling Krispy Kremes to raise money for international community service projects in developing countries, as part of the school’s commitment to Round Square. These projects help to construct much needed buildings and educate the community in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Round Square is a worldwide association of schools which believes that education goes beyond the classroom. Girls at Cobham Hall learn and practice the importance of leadership, internationalism, service, democracy, adventure and environmentalism.
Over the past year, Cobham Hall students and staff have raised money to help a variety of causes including aid for Japan after the earthquake and tsunami, the Lion ward in King’s Hospital and the Good Rock Foundation which helps young children in China. The school also sponsors a child in Kenya.
