Christmas celebrations wrap up the term

There are times when being part of the Cobham Hall community is like being let in on a secret.
Thursday’s Christmas Dinner and Staff Entertainment is one of those times.
Trial examinations have finished, the last class is over, final tests have been endured and the end of term is well within sight. The spirit of Christmas has well and truly descended upon the school, with the Christmas tree towering and well lit in the corridor, the dining halls decked out in red and time finally to enjoy being altogether before the last bags are packed.
It’s an event strictly by invitation only – staff, students and governors are the only ones allowed in.
A scrumptious Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings kicked off the evening, complete with turkey, cranberry sauce, mince pies and Christmas themed ice-cream.
It began with teachers being applauded into the Gilt Hall and Dining Rooms in their finest frocks – and a suit or two - and ended with a rousing cheer for the chefs and kitchen staff who have worked hard throughout the year to prepare all the school meals.
Leading up to Staff Entertainment – an event where the often comic talents of the teachers are joyously discovered by girls – the acts were shrouded in mystery with teachers denying involvement.
It’s a moment that can only be experienced in the flesh – no cameras allowed, but it will be imprinted in the girls’ memories for some time to come.
Highlights included Head of Music Miss Clements giving girls some catchy musical advice on being naughty – she’s getting nothing for Christmas apparently – which girls could be heard singing in the school hallways the next day, a troop of dancing teachers and others who turned themselves into a slightly less heart-throbbing version of the teen sensations One Direction.
The term concluded the next day with a Carol Service in the church in Cobham village for all students, staff, parents and guardians.
