The Big Hush

A glorious peace descended on Cobham Hall at 1.30pm on Friday 26 January, when the whole of Group 1 took part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual sponsored silence – The Big Hush – and managed to remain silent for an amazing 20 minutes.  The total raised so far is a staggering £799 - with more still to be collected!

The girls had set themselves a target to raise £200 and are thrilled that they have far exceeded this.  Lower School Senior Tutor Miss Katy Lee was delighted with the response.  “I would like to say a very big thank you to all the staff, friends and families who generously supported the girls.”  The money raised will be sent directly to Macmillan to support their vital services.

Earlier in the week, two representatives from Macmillan visited Cobham Hall to talk to the whole school at morning Assembly.  They gave a very moving insight into the work done by this remarkable organisation – not only supporting cancer patients, but also their families.  Fundraising events such as The Big Hush raise money to fund specialist nurses and doctors who deliver the best in cancer care; build vitally needed treatment centres; give financial help to those who need it most; and provide a range of cancer information, both locally and nationally.

Youngsters from around the UK took part in The Big Hush as part of Macmillan’s Cancertalk Week.  By getting involved in activities throughout the Week, such as lessons focusing on cancer, The Big Hush, and a story writing competition, it is hoped that children will learn the facts about the illness.
