Round Square Summer Fair & Mini Olympics - Friday 20 June

The sun shone on the annual Mini Olympics and Round Square Summer Fair, held on Friday 20 June.   This event combines traditional sporting events in track and field with the relaxed atmosphere of an English summer fair.  Parents enjoyed strawberry teas and Pimms, while a coconut shy and well supervised bouncy castle ensured that there was plenty to keep younger guests amused.

The event started with the House parade, with students in their House colours carrying their House banners and flags of the nations represented in school.  A new addition this year was the introduction of the House Chant.

Girls had been practising hard for the track and field events, as House rivalry is keen, and the Inter-House Sports trophy was at stake.

In addition to the sports events, students organise and run a wide range and fundraising stalls, which were busy all afternoon.  The Chinese students had organised a stall offering Chinese calligraphy and were also selling cards featuring some of the A Level students' artwork.  Other attractions were a tombola, a jewellery stall and a Cobham Hall version of Play your Cards Right.

Competition for the trophies was very close.  In the end, Lenox House won the Inter-House Sports Trophy by a very small margin from Darnley House, who had overcome a slow start to score well in the later events.  The individual trophies for the event went to Danielle Fautley of Lower School, who set new school records for the 800m and the Shotput, and Gemma Carter in Middle School.
