A Reality Check for Group 2
Group 2 students recently played the Real Game. TWe began by planning our dream lifestyle, choosing a house, a car and other accessories. Each girl was then randomly allocated a job, complete with job description, salary and annual leave. We worked together to plan a lifestyle we could afford by learning how to budget. It was a real eye opener as we realised just how hard our parents have to work to pay for all the good things they give us.
Here are some of the girls' comments:
‘I have learned so much about handling money and how hard my mum and dad have to work to keep us where we live and let us do what we do’ Siun
‘ My job was a fairly well paid one , £1600 per month, but I had to work a 60 hour week and I only got three weeks’ holiday a year!’ Lily
‘ I realised I was in debt so I had to change my house for a smaller house. I realised being an adult is not as easy as you think it is’ Shalini
‘ What I need to do now is think hard about what I would like to do and get good grades’ Meghan
‘I learnt that you have to earn a lot to achieve your dream and that is depressing to be in debt.’ Lizzie
‘ If I walk to work every day it will help save the planet, reduce my carbon footprint and save me a lot of money’ Nichole
‘ This morning I thought I could afford a mansion, but I later learned I would have to make a lot of compromises’ Matilda
‘ I have realised that it is a difficult task working out what to do with your money to avoid debt. My parents do this every day. In the future I will ask for a lot less from them’ Nathalie

‘ I think my parents must be very hard working people’ Maimuna

‘I feel both scared and excited for my life ahead. I have to prepare myself carefully’ Amy
