The Year 11 Biathlon Team travelled to Crystal Palace on 27th March to compete in the finals of the national Schools' Biathlon Championships.  All the girls ran incredibly well in the 1000m, all managing to produce a personal best time.  The 100m swim was a real challenge after pushing themselves so hard in the run but all did extremely well.

Their overall performance gained them 4th place.  For a small school of just under 200 students to produce the fourth best Biathlon team in this age group in the country is a truly amazing achievement.

Well done to Billie Jayne, Chloe and Teresa.

Mrs Hooper (Head of Sport)

The following girls were commended by their House Captains:

On 9th February, the u13 team played in the Kent netball tournament. They had an excellent tournament managing to win two matches, draw two and lose 2.

Our wins and draws were against very large schools with around 150-200 girls in Year 8 alone.  For Cobham hall to compete and do as well as this team did is quite exceptional.

Mrs Hooper would like to commend all of the girls involved.

Georgia Chisnall (captain), Sophie Noyes, Kerri Mo, Alice Sear, Bonnie Welch, Nicole Ruiz, Olivia Berry, Sarah Day, Lydia Sait and Elenor Davey

Rebecca Everest came 2nd in the 100m backstroke in the Kent Schools Swimming last Saturday. This is an outstanding achievement!
She has now been selected to represent Kent on the 25th March.

Well Done Rebecca, all the years of training is really paying off.

Kent Netball Tournament - 17 January 2011

The u14s and U16s both had the chance to play in the Kent Netball Tournament last week.

The U14s were slightly luckier with the weather and overall had a very positive tournament with two very good wins and other matches that were very close.

The u16s played most of their matches in torrential rain and struggled a little at first with the conditions. By the end of the tournament they were playing to a better standard and managed a good win against The John Wallis School.

All players had some outstanding periods during the tournament and our aim as a school is to extend these outstanding periods to last throughout the match.... We are certainly getting there!

Well done to all!

Mrs Hooper (Head of Sport)

u13 Hockey - 19 January 2011

The u13s played their first Hockey match this Wednesday against Bethany School. They played extremely well  and all members of the team played their part to win the game 3-0.

Georgia Chisnall scored two goals and Tilly Green the third.

Well done!

u14 Hockey - 22 November 2010
Cobham 2 : Gads Hill 0

This was the first match for the U14 team.  The team began very well with Georgia Chisnall and Maimuna Yunni scoring a goal each in the first 3 minutes.  Things looked promising!  Several changes had to be made as the match progressed because one or two players were getting tired, and we have so many keen hockey players.  Shalini Lail and Lizzie Handy were very solid in defence whilst Georgia and Amy Hurst were excellent in attack.  However, the player of the match chosen by Gads was Belen.  She was outstanding on the left wing with her control, pace and reverse stick skills.

Well done a fantastic team effort, particularly to those players who have not represented the school hockey team before.

Mrs Carney

U16 Hockey - 2 November 2010
Cobham 2 : Bethany 2
Cobham 0 : Kings 0

This was Cobham's first time playing an 11 a-side match on the full size astro turf at Holcombe Hockey Club.  We began well against Bethany, with Billie-Jayne kidd scoring twice to give us a good lead. However, after half time Bethany pulled a goal back.  Our fitness level was waning slightly during the latter stages of the match and Bethany equalized with literally the last hit of the game.

We then had to put that result behind us and take on Kings.  It was pretty much end to end action with both teams having chances to score.  But the 0-0 score at the final whistle was a fair result.  It was a fantastic opportunity for the Cobham team to play on a full size pitch and they coped very well, although all players were extremely tired by the end of both matches.

Chloe Martyn (Year 11)

I have been invited to train in the Junior Hockey Academy at Holcombe to improve my skills and fitness on the pitch.  Training at Holcombe on a Tuesday combines fitness along with hockey skills and games to improve every aspect of the player.  The training is taken by international hockey players who have an excellent level of skill and understanding of the game.

I am looking forward to improving my hockey over the season and bringing new hockey skills and tactics to our Hockey club and PE lessons at Cobham, also using these skills in our forthcoming hockey games.

u13 Rounders v Coombe Bank
Cobham 6½ : Coombe Bank 9½

Natalie Ruiz and Nichole Ranger displayed some excellent fielding skills.

Seven Sixth Form girls have signed up for a 3-week course of golf lessons at Rochester & Cobham Park Golf Course.  The girls thoroughly enjoyed their first session with club professional, Warren Wood.

Laura Timms, Justina Balch and Billie-Jayne Kidd were put forward for Kent county Netball Trials. Billie-Jayne Kidd has managed to reach the second round which is on the 15th May.

We wish Billie- Jayne luck.

U15 Rounders v Coombe Bank
Cobham Hall 17 : Coombe Bank 8 ½.

The girls played exceptionally well.  Player of the match was Billie-Jayne Kidd.  Special mentions also go to Justina Balch, who managed to score 4 ½ rounders, and Christelle Chapman who scored 4 rounders.  Alex Maclachlan in Group 3 demonstrated flawless back -stopping skills managing to catch 3 people out  from backward hits!

Coombe Bank wanted to give all the girls player of the match as they felt that the entire team played an excellent part in the win!

U14s Tennis v Coombe bank.

We didn’t manage a win, but the girls enjoyed their matches.  Emilie and Paige in Group 3 were successful in one match winning 3-2. Well done.

All of the AS and A2 level PE girls performed outstandingly well in their PE aural moderation. The chief moderator commented on Sarah Irving saying “her delivery was extremely confident, all aspects discussed were applied at an A grade standard.  It was a joy to listen to” Poppy Waller, Sarah Irving and Chantelle Roles were a credit to the school.

Chantelle Roles also had her AS level moderation . She had to observe a netball performance and discuss the player for 20 minutes with reference to psychology, physiology and social topics. Chantelle deserves to be commended for an outstanding achievement. Both her planning and execution were excellent.
