Tea with Mrs Pankhurst
This year's Drama Department production was another great success, with packed audiences enjoying this remarkable piece of theatre by Ruth Urquhart and James Douglas.
Emmeline Pankhurst and Selina Cooper took tea together many times. Yet these two suffrage leaders had not only different aproaches to gaining the vote, but also different motives.
Exploring the suffrage movement and the conflicts within it, 'Tea with Mrs Pankhurst' gives great insight into Edwardian Britain, bringing the suffrage campaign to life and showing how this historic movement is still relevant today.
The play unfolds in a series of short episodes, and featured imaginative use of contemporary songs, performed by the Sister Suffragettes. Scenes of high drama were offset by some lovely moments of wit and friendly audience participation.
