The Pre-IB course at Cobham Hall is designed primarily to provide a solid academic foundation for girls wishing to continue on to the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Girls in Pre-IB study a course tailored specifically for them, taking into account their needs, skills, ambitions and length of stay. From September 2016, taken as one year course, girls have the option of taking GCSEs and IGCSEs. However, for those wishing to join us for one or two terms to experience an English boarding school education, or to gain fluency in English, the programme can be adapted. Students staying only one or two terms would not be able to take GCSEs or IGCSEs.
Typically, girls in Pre-IB study Mathematics, English, Geography, and Science, as well as a Modern Foreign Language. Girls staying for the full year will have the option of taking a GCSE or IGCSE in their native language.
Pre-IB students also take other classes including Physical Education and Drama. For international students, whose first language is not English, English as a Foreign Language (EFL) lessons will form part of their timetable. To learn more about EFL lessons, please visit our EFL section.
This combination of subjects aims to develop the key skills required for both the IB Diploma and university. By studying at Cobham Hall, girls taking the Pre-IB course will be introduced to the core elements of the IB. Theory of Knowledge will be studied and CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) is naturally promoted throughout the School. Visit our CAS page to find out more.
From September 2016, Pre-IB students will live in Main Hall with girls in Year 11, who will also be studying for GCSEs. To find out more about Main Hall Boarding, please visit the Boarding pages.
