Cobham Girls Volunteer for Food Collection
This half-term, our Round Square focus is the pillar of ‘Service’; the perfect time then to volunteer and support a worthy charity.
Organised by our DofE Leader and CAS Co-ordinator Miss Lambert, the School joined together to collect food for Fareshare, a charity that gathers good food which may otherwise go to waste and redistribute it to charities like women's refuges, homeless shelters and children’s breakfast clubs.
In addition to the School community donating items including pasta, rice, tinned goods, cooking sauces, tea, coffee and UHT milk, five students from Years 10 and 12 volunteered to help with a food collection at a local Tesco supermarket.
“Last year we took part in this initiative,” explained Miss Lambert, who accompanied the girls, “and we managed to collect enough food for 600 meals, we hope to at least achieve this again, although we are aiming for 1000!
“The Tesco staff were very impressed with the girls, who did an amazing job encouraging nearly all the customers who came in to contribute to the collection.”
The donations will be collected by Fareshare to be redistributed to food banks and charities to help feed people over the Christmas period.
