An MUN Weekend
At the start of the Summer Term, a delegation of students from Cobham Hall attended a Model United Nations Conference, held at the Royal Hospital School. As well as MUN regulars, two Year 7 pupils, new to MUN, also attended the Conference. Both girls really enjoyed their experience and returned enthusiastic about attending more. Here are their accounts.
“My first MUN conference was to ROYMUN 2018; a memorable experience helped me hugely with my confidence. One thing that they said at the debate was to speak up at the beginning, as it got harder as the debate progressed. I spoke a bit in each debate! Something else that helped me was how you shouldn’t be afraid of what people think of you in during the debate, as you’re not speaking your opinion but that of the country you are representing.”
“MUN at the Royal Hospital School was an amazing experience that has boosted our confidence and made all of us more aware of MUN debating. I am only in Year 7, but the other girls helped me and supported me throughout the experience.
“It was the first time I had ever stayed away like this, although there is nothing quite like this, so it was a little nerve-racking at first. I had butterflies in my stomach but the debating was an amazing experience that made all of us so much more confident.
“It was amazing. My Mum was nervous about me doing this, but now she is so glad that I went on the trip, now I am very keen to stand out.
“We were so pleased that two Cobham Hall girls won the ‘Recommended Delegate Award’ for their sheer excellence in debates. To sum up, all I can say is: If you get the chance to go to a MUN conference… do it! You’ll regret it if you don’t!”
