Head of Music

We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious Head of Music who has the creative presence to raise the profile of music in all areas by bringing fresh ideas and ambition to the role. It will be an opportunity to make an impact from the start.

Responsible for the management of all aspects of music within the School, including the academic and co-curricular provision, the Head of Music will ensure a broad and engaging curriculum as well an exciting and varied programme of concerts. They will have the passion and commitment to ensure that students of all abilities fulfil their musical potential. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop productive relationships with parents, students, local schools and professionals beyond the School itself and in the wider community.

Experience of directing ensembles and the ability to accompany pupil performances on the piano is an important aspect of this post. The ability to teach Voice and/or Piano is desirable. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher in the early stages of their career to gain leadership experience, or for a more experienced teacher wishing to work with small class sizes in a nurturing and friendly environment.

Housemistress

We are seeking a live-in Housemistress for a boarding and day House. Housemistresses hold a uniquely important position of trust and influence in their Houses, making a significant contribution to the pastoral and academic welfare of the students in their care.

The successful candidate will have the capacity to lead, motivate, support and understand young people in all aspects of their development, especially their emotional, academic and pastoral needs. You will possess strong inter-personal skills, a can-do attitude, a good sense of humour and will be expected to be an excellent role model for the pupils. You will expect and embody high standards of behaviour, courtesy and care.

Applications from candidates from a teaching or non-teaching background are welcome; we are receptive to hearing about the ways in which a different skill-set could enhance our diversity and outward-facing profile while also meeting the varied requirements of the role specification.

This is a permanent, term-time only position. The postholder will receive a 2-bed flat free of rent and utilities’ costs, and a competitive salary. You will be expected to work weekends and evenings as required and to have significant overnight responsibility.

Driver

We are seeking a Driver, to drive School vehicles as required, collecting students from given pick-up points along a designated route and delivering them to the School (mornings); collecting students from the School and dropping them back at the designated drop off points (afternoons).

You will have a professional manner and approach, good interpersonal, communication and time management skills. A Category D licence and experience of driving a minibus are desirable but not essential.

Previous experience of working in a school is not required but would be advantageous. However, lack of experience should not discourage good applicants from applying for the position.

This is a term-time only position. The hours of work are not fixed but vary to meet the needs of the students. The current vacancy will require the driver to leave Cobham Hall at approximately 06:00 and returning at around 08:15 and then, in the evening, leaving at 16:30 and returning around 18:00. Extra time is required in the morning to carry out daily checks. Additional shifts are often available in the evenings and, occasionally, at weekends and during School holidays.
Hourly rate £11.00.

Resident Graduate Assistant

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated and patient graduate to work within our boarding community at Cobham Hall. Our Resident Graduate Assistants provide both  boarding and day to day academic support to our male and female students, ensuring that students have a secure and supportive ‘home from home’ during term time. These are residential roles and accommodation is provided in our Boarding House.

From waking up students in the morning until the lights go out at night, each day is completely different. This makes the role of Resident Graduate Assistant a challenging but hugely fulfilling one. Suitable training and ongoing support will be provided which is vital in the early days of the role.

You will have a degree or equivalent, good verbal and written skills and experience of having undertaken a leadership role. You will be confident and enthusiastic, adaptable and resilient, and have the ability to motivate and inspire students. You will also show strong organisational and administrative skills (including ICT) with an ability to work  a budget.

This is a fixed term, term-time only position, September 2022 (May start a possibility) -August 2023, with the possibility for a second year.

Artist-in-Residence

We require an Artist in Residence to join the Art Department for the academic year 2021/22.

The School is looking for an energetic artist who is keen to develop their own creative practice within a busy Art department and at the same time is able and willing to inspire and enthuse our students. The successful candidate is likely to have an interest in Art education. The position does not come with financial remuneration, but food, residential accommodation and studio space are provided as well as support from teaching staff and use of other School facilities.

The Art Department has two large art studios, a workshop, a Mac digital suite, photographic studio and dark- room, a kiln room and well stocked resource room. We also enjoy the services of a part-time technician.

We teach Art at Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level, in small groups, and we cover a wide range of disciplines including: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, ceramics and mixed media. We are always looking to expand and develop what we offer.
