Year 9 Break the Bias

Posted: 9th March 2022

Year 9 students attended a fantastic event, entitled ‘Break the Bias’, at Medway Park to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The day was kick-started with an inspirational interview with Ama Agbeze, the England Netball Captain and Georgia-May Fenton, a gold-winning GB Gymnast. The athletes shared their experiences, thoughts on barriers faced within sport and provided suggestions on how to tackle pressure, in sport and during GCSEs.

Following this, students had the opportunity to experience many different sports and fitness classes. Some of the favourites were trampolining, boxing and tag rugby.

Head of PE, Miss Moore, and PE Teacher, Miss Fautley, were enthusiastic about the students’ attitudes in trying new sports. “The day was a huge success that inspired all,” commented Miss Moore, “and we can’t wait to take the next year group. As always the students enthusiasm and behaviour was exceptional, they are a credit to Cobham Hall and their families.”

Students returning demonstrated the impact, with one saying “Today has made me reconsider my opinion on sport”, and another that, “As a young female athlete, today’s activities and speeches have really inspired and motivated me.”
