Blood Typing in Biology

Posted: 2nd February 2023

Mrs Thompson’s Year 12 A level Biology class have been studying the immune system and how antibodies can be used in medical diagnostics.

They used the presence or absence of antigens (markers, found on cells) to determine their blood groups.  An agglutination (clumping) of the blood indicates that the antigen is present – Natasha clearly has B antigens, revealing that she is blood type B.

Phoebe, Tara and Natasha also looked at the science behind how pregnancy tests and Covid tests work.
