Cobham Hall Welcomes Nicaraguan Exchange Teacher

Posted: 22nd September 2023

On Thursday, Cobham Hall was honoured to welcome Mr Miguel Bermudez for a day’s visit, joining lessons across a range of subjects and year groups. Mr Bermudez is an English teacher in a region of Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, called Diriamba, and is visiting the UK as part of an exchange sponsored by the National Education Union.

Last summer, eleven primary and secondary trained teachers(including Cobham Hall’s Mrs Lenton) visited Nicaragua to meet with their counterparts, all teachers of English as a second language. Mr Bermudez hosted one of the NEU delegation teachers in his home, and for his exchange visit is being hosted in Lewisham. We were fascinated to learn about his life and his school: his wife is the Head Teacher of a secondary school which has separate morning cohorts and afternoon cohorts, as well as Saturday cohorts for children and young people who work (normally in agriculture) during the week.

We wish Mr Bermudez a successful and enjoyable continuation of his visit.
