Cobham Hall in Partnership with Steinway & Sons

Posted: 31st October 2023

Cobham Hall is delighted to announce a prestigious new music partnership with world-renowned Steinway & Sons, in an exciting development which will bring untold benefit to our students and to music throughout the School. Thanks to this partnership, a fleet of Steinway-made pianos will be delivered to the Music department and be freely available for everyone one to use. In addition to this, our Gilt Hall will soon be home to a Model B Grand, giving our musicians and music scholars the chance to play, or be accompanied by, Steinway’s unrivalled ‘perfect piano’ as a matter of course. Many will also have the chance to participate in masterclasses with some of Steinway’s brilliant International Artists,
which include such stars as Yaoying Yang, Lang Lang, Charlie Puth, Martin Roscoe and Hyung-ki Joo.

Benefit for All

For piano students, to be able to play Steinway-made instruments – and even the flagship Model B – is clearly an incredible opportunity, but the benefit extends far beyond their number. To be accompanied by a Steinway has been shown to enhance and improve the quality of others’ performances – widening the impact of the partnership to the many Cobham musicians who play other instruments or sing, and who will soon experience a sound like no other. We are indebted to our Unicorn Association, whose support makes this possible.

The partnership and availability of the world’s finest instruments is expected to attract a wider group of professional musicians to Cobham Hall, allowing students and, indeed, our whole community, access to professional performers and performances. The launch of prestigious UK and international Steinway Scholarships will also be a draw for students looking to develop their musicianship at the School.

Our First Masterclass with Martin Roscoe

Particularly important for our Music Scholars and pianists is the chance the partnership brings to visit Steinway Hall in London and receive a masterclass from one of their international pianists. And the first such opportunity takes place straight after half-term, on Monday 6th November, when they will head to Steinway Hall to help select the new Steinway Model B Grand for the Gilt Hall. During this visit, they will have the opportunity to enjoy a masterclass with world-renowned Steinway & Sons Artist, the classical pianist Martin Roscoe – we could not be
more excited!
